Bingo is Back and Booming.

The styles of the 50s are being revived!

Whenever we see photos of the 1950s, we’re treated to images of elegance and sophistication, of girls in short sundresses and men in suits and ties. Sometimes, they’re even dancing in the street a la “Singin’ in the Rain”.

Of course, musicals have seen a great resurgence in recent years. Thanks to “Glee” and various Disney productions like the High School Musical series, many people have become entranced with the idea of a movie where actors suddenly burst into song and join others in choreographed dances. They’re now quite popular, as “Pitch Perfect” was nominated for and received various Critics’ Choice and People’s Choice awards in 2013.

Another staple of the 50s, bingo, is also being revived. Popularity of the game had dwindled over the past few decades, but it’s quickly picking up the pace again. In just ten years, the BBC reports that online bingo sites have grown from 20 to 350, with players totaling in the millions. New bingo sites are popping up out of nowhere. The Trinity Mirror, a well-known publishing firm that runs the “Daily Mirror” and “People” has ventured out into online bingo, and Iceland Foods, a British supermarket chain, has also launched its own online bingo site with Bingoiceland.com. There’s no denying that bingo is back, with people spending upwards of $500m on online bingo sites every year.

But more importantly, the fashion trends of the 1950s have made a comeback. Thanks in part to Zooey Deschanel’s popularization of what Tom in “500 Days of Summer” described as a “1960s haircut”, girls from all over have picked up on the retro trend. If you want to be part of this retro revival, be sure to keep the following things in mind:

· Pixie cuts were popularized by Twiggy at around this time, so this is a great hairstyle to try out.

· Popping facial features are also important. Wear dark eyebrows and thick mascara with pronounced lower lashes to really bring out your eyes.
· A subtle pink lip or a bright red shade will both go well with a retro look. Think Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn.

· Emulate those bingo players by wearing flapper dresses with polka dots. Popular colors are white and pale blues or pinks.
